Commonly
referred to as "bucket" seats because of the handle, these
seats consist of a base, which remains fixed to your
vehicle's seat, and a carrier that
has the ability (and convenience) to be removed from the base and carried,
or in some cases, attached to a stroller.
"Bucket" seats are extremely popular for newborns because once they
have been safely strapped in, they don't need to be disturbed (woken
up) to
be moved in and out of the car and/or stroller.
Infant "bucket" seats are usually rated from 5lbs. up to 20-22lbs. and
about 30in. Once your baby exceeds either the posted weight or the height
ratings, it's time to move to a Convertible
seat.
On average, infant bucket seats are appropriate for the first 6-9 months
of age.
Note: All car seats are required, by law, to bare a sticker stating
the height and weight limits of that seat. Always follow manufacturer's
recommendations.
